Detailed Itinerary
6:00 AM – Pickup from Kampala
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel, residence, or designated meeting point in Kampala by our professional driver-guide. After a short briefing, depart for Buyende District on a scenic journey of approximately 190 kilometres, taking about 4 to 5 hours.
Travel along the Kampala–Jinja Highway, passing through Mukono, the beautiful Mabira Forest, and the vibrant city of Jinja before connecting to Kamuli Road. Continue through the rolling countryside of Busoga, where you’ll enjoy views of rural villages, sugarcane plantations, wetlands, and traditional homesteads.
A brief stop may be made along the way for refreshments and photography.
10:30 AM – Arrival at Kagulu Hill
Upon arrival at Kagulu Hill, you will meet experienced local guides for a safety briefing and introduction to the hike.
The guides will explain the climbing route, safety precautions, and fascinating historical background of the hill. Hiking sticks can be provided upon request.
11:00 AM – Begin the Rock Climb
Begin your ascent along the giant granite outcrop using a combination of natural rock pathways and constructed stairways.
The hike is moderately challenging but highly rewarding. Several resting points along the route allow hikers to relax, take photographs, and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Throughout the climb, your guide will explain the history of Chief Kagulu, the legendary military leader believed to have settled on the hill during the expansion of the Busoga Kingdom. You’ll also learn about local traditions, folklore, and the cultural significance of Kagulu Hill.
Summit Experience
Reaching the summit is the highlight of the adventure.
From the top, enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views stretching across Buyende District, the Busoga plains, wetlands, farmlands, villages, and the sparkling waters of Lake Kyoga in the distance.

Lunch
Enjoy a freshly prepared local lunch at a nearby restaurant before beginning your return journey to Kampala.
Return to Kampala
After lunch, depart for Kampala.
If time allows, make an optional stop at Ssezibwa Falls, one of Uganda’s culturally significant natural attractions, known for its waterfalls, sacred sites, birdlife, and beautiful river scenery.
